How is WanderWell PT Different from other PT Clinics?
At WanderWell, the care is personalized, unrushed, and truly centered on you. Unlike many insurance-based clinics that often juggle multiple patients at once or limit sessions to just 20–30 minutes, I offer private, 60-minute one-on-one sessions every time. You’ll never be handed off to an aide or rushed through a checklist.
I don’t take a one-joint or one-body-part approach—and I definitely won’t sit and stare off into space while you count your reps. I’m constantly watching and analyzing how your whole body moves. Every breath, squat, and shift is a clue I use to uncover patterns and optimize how your entire system functions—not just treat isolated symptoms.
While some clinics have therapists with a primarily orthopedic background and just one or two pelvic floor courses under their belt, I eat, sleep, and breathe pelvic health. I'm a true, passionate pelvic floor nerd—always learning, training, and deep-diving so I can treat you comprehensively and help you not just fix your symptoms, but truly upgrade your life.
I’ve helped hundreds of people across all walks of life and all genders resolve their pelvic floor challenges and feel empowered in their bodies again—and I bring that deep experience to every session.
Because I’m not restricted by insurance limitations, we can focus on what your body actually needs—including the pelvic floor, breathing, posture, strength, nervous system regulation, and movement patterns.
The goal? Not just to feel better—but to feel strong, confident, and free to do what you love without your body holding you back.
-
What is pelvic floor physical therapy?Pelvic floor therapy helps address issues with the muscles that support your bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs. These muscles can become too tight, weak, or uncoordinated—causing symptoms like leaking, pelvic pain, constipation, or pain with sex. What Does Treatment Look Like? Treatment is personalized and may include: * Exercises to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor * Posture, breathing, and movement retraining * Hands-on techniques * Core and hip strengthening for better muscle balance * Education about your body * Strategies to support bladder, bowel, or pain relief The goal is to help you feel and move better so you can get back to doing what you love.
-
How do I know if I need pelvic floor therapy? You might benefit from pelvic floor therapy if you’re experiencing: * Leaking urine with coughing, sneezing, or exercise * Frequent or urgent trips to the bathroom * Pelvic pain, pressure, or heaviness * Pain with sex, tampon use, or pelvic exams * Constipation or bowel issues * Low back, hip, or tailbone pain * Trouble recovering after birth * Pain or dysfunction after abdominal or pelvic surgery Pelvic floor therapy can also help prepare for childbirth by teaching you how to move your body to reduce labor duration and minimize tearing. After birth, it can help retrain your core and glutes, restore posture and breathing patterns, and support your return to activity. You don’t have to “just live with it”—pelvic floor therapy can help you feel strong, confident, and in control again.
-
Will pelvic floor physical therapy help with urinary incontinence?Yes, Pelvic floor Physical Therapy is effective for treating both stress and urge incontinence. Depending on your specific needs, treatment may include pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation, posture correction, breathing mechanics, and pelvic floor coordination training. Every plan is tailored to your unique findings during the evaluation.
-
Can pelvic floor physical therapy help after childbirth?Absolutely. Postpartum recovery often involves pelvic floor rehabilitation to address issues like diastasis recti, perineal tearing, pelvic organ prolapse, and urinary incontinence. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy can help restore strength and function, making it easier to return to activities you love.
-
How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions varies depending on your specific concerns. While my goal is for patients to see improvement in symptoms within 1 month, a typical treatment plan may range from 3 months to 1 year depending on your goals. Some people may see quick improvement, while others may need a longer plan. Our goal is not just to resolve symptoms, but to ensure you leave in a better physical position than when you started—ideally, no longer having to think about your body when you’re doing the things you love. I help people work toward goals like completing half and full marathons, tackling more intense hikes, and achieving other fitness milestones.
-
Is pelvic floor physical therapy covered by insurance?Yes, Most insurance plans cover pelvic floor physical therapy, both in-network and out-of-network. It's a good idea to check with your provider to confirm coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs.
-
What should I expect during my first session?Come prepared with details about your symptoms, medical history, and any questions you might have. You’ll fill out intake paperwork online before your evaluation, which will give me a good understanding of your starting point, symptoms, and goals. We’ll discuss this more in-depth during the evaluation. It’s helpful to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for movement, as we’ll be doing a full-body movement assessment. Come curious and ready to learn about the uniqueness of your own body!
-
How long does each treatment session last? The initial evaluation lasts 75 minutes to allow for a thorough assessment of your movement patterns, areas of concern, and pelvic floor health, helping us create the most effective treatment plan. Each follow up treatment session typically lasts about 60 minutes, allowing time to evaluate and address your symptoms while incorporating exercises to enhance your progress. We’ll regularly check your progress toward your goals and adjust the treatment plan to focus on your specific needs, along with providing exercises for you to continue working on between visits.
-
Do I need to remove clothing for pelvic floor physical therapy? The most accurate way to evaluate the pelvic floor is through an internal assessment, but I’m a huge advocate for trauma-informed care and understand that this may not be comfortable for everyone. During an internal assessment, we use draping to maintain modesty as much as possible. If you’re not comfortable with an internal exam, we can explore external ways to assess the pelvic floor, and we’ll discuss this during your sessions to find the best approach for your goals. Please know that consent is ongoing—if an internal assessment or treatment is done once, it does not need to be repeated unless you choose to. You have the power to shape your treatment plan, and your comfort will always be respected.
-
Is pelvic floor physical therapy just for women? Not at all—pelvic floor physical therapy is for all people. While it’s often associated with pregnancy and postpartum care, it also helps people of all identities with issues like urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, constipation, painful sex, erectile dysfunction, and recovery after pelvic or abdominal surgery. Everyone has a pelvic floor, and everyone deserves care that supports their function and quality of life. You matter, and I’m here to help you feel better, move better, and live your best life!
-
Is there parking available?Yes! There is plenty of free street parking available on Prentice Street and 59th Street. The clinic is located right on the corner of those two streets, making it easy and convenient to find a spot nearby.
-
Can I bring my child to my appointment? For your initial evaluation, we kindly ask that you try your best to arrange childcare so we can do a thorough, uninterrupted assessment. That said, if you need to bring your child to a follow-up visit, that’s totally fine! It’s a small space, but we’ve made it work before—and I truly love having little ones around. I also want to make sure you get time for yourself, even when your schedule is full and life feels chaotic. Your care matters, and we’ll work together to make it doable.
-
What if I have my period—do I need to cancel my appointment?Nope, you don’t need to cancel! Not all pelvic floor physical therapy sessions involve internal treatment. There are still plenty of effective ways we can work on pelvic floor strengthening, relaxation, and overall function without working internally. Your comfort is always the priority, and we’ll adjust the session to meet your needs that day.
-
Should I cancel my appointment if I haven’t done my home exercises?Definitely not! Of course I’d love it if everyone had time to do their exercises regularly—but I totally get that life gets busy and chaotic. Sometimes, the only time you have for yourself all week is the 60 minutes you set aside for PT—and that’s still incredibly valuable. There is ZERO judgment here. Come as you are, and I’ll meet you there. Let’s use that time to refocus, reset, and yes… maybe I’ll lovingly kick your butt a little so you can feel like you had some quality you time!
